The Landscape
Syndicate
was formed in
1996, in London UK, by Tertius Strauss and John Wyatt and a
small team of designers, horticulturalists, builders and
irrigation experts. Hence the name 'syndicate',
as our group syndicated specialist landscape skills to our customers. We
continue to do this today as we try hard to sub-contract artists
and craftsmen with very specific talents, for our discerning
clients.
In 2001 John and Tertius formed The Environment Syndicate (Pty) Ltd.,
a company which has a wider remit for sustainable
development planning, community greening and environmental comunication
and education.
The Landscape Syndicate is a
division of The Environment Syndicate (Pty) Ltd.
John Wyatt is British and holds a B.Sc. (Hons) degree
in physical geography from the University of Salford, a Diploma
in Landscape Design and a Masters degree in Landscape Architecture
from the University of
Sheffield.
His early work was as a landscape
architect in Manchester and the ‘new city’ of Milton Keynes where
he designed country parks, childrens playgrounds, housing
landscapes and civic spaces. For 10 years he was Landscape
and Environment Policy Manager with Westminster City
Council in London, protecting and enhancing some of London's most
famous landmarks and streetscapes - Berkeley Square, Trafalgar
Square, Piccadilly Circus, the River Thames and Park Lane. He has also worked in
the Royal Parks as a landscape consultant. The Landscape Syndicate has
continued its association with Westminster City Council acting
as advisors on street furniture design in Leicester Square in the West End. While with Westminster City Council
he won the United Nations Environment Programme-endorsed 'International Award for Liveable
Communities'.
In private practice with
‘Building Design Partnership’ and ‘Land Use Consultants’ he
designed business parks, wetland and wildfowl habitats, gardens
for private residences, roof gardens and theme parks.
Now in Cape Town, he has returned
to his love of design for private estates and gardens
and is especially proud of the standards set
by The Landscape Syndicate in the creation
of fine garden designs for Cape Town clients.
Close
to his heart is quality landscape for kids and kids play and is
currently planning a major project launch for the design of
inspiring schools landscapes in the Helderberg.
For relaxation he
watches the whales from his office window.
Tertius Strauss
is by training, an Agricultural
Scientist. He holds a B.Sc. degree in Agricultural Science
from the University of Pretoria.
He has an extensive knowledge of aquaculture and
fish farming, water and irrigation management. The creation of sustainable
wetland environments and the management of fish, including ornamental
fish is a particular specialism.
After 5 years in the UK working in Covent Garden, London,
as a Software Developer, Analyst and Programmer on Property
and Grounds Management, he joined the London based landscape
design firm, Garden Characters. He then set up The Landscape Syndicate
and has been involved in the design and project management of all
schemes undertaken by them since their inception.
He has expert knowledge of local indigenous
flora, particularly what will and
what will not, thrive in the
Western Cape and is responsible for all planting designs and schemes and their associated (bespoke)irrigation installations.
He returned to Pretoria after
7 years in England and with John, moved The Landscape Syndicate to Cape Town in
2001. |
